How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is read more plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles.
